1. Who can install a charging point on a public highway?

Public access charging points can be installed by any:

  • Developer.
  • Company or business.
  • Business with access to parking areas from public roads.

This is regulated by current regulations.

2. Managing the charging point at your business

How the electricity supply is managed depends on the available capacity:

  • If the contracted capacity is sufficient
    No further processing is required with the distributor.
  • If you need to increase the capacity
    You must arrange this through your electricity supplier.
  • If an external company manages the charging point
    They must request a new electricity supply.

3. Locations of public access charging points

Public access charging points can be promoted by:

  • Public bodies.
  • Companies or third parties (shops, businesses, etc.).

How they are installed

  • If promoted by public bodies, they are installed via public tender.
  • If promoted by third parties, a tendering process is not necessary.

The successful bidder must be a Charge Point Operator (CPO).

4. Where charging points are mandatory

  • Corridors of the Trans-European Transport Network.

5. Process for deploying charging infrastructure

  1. Request a new supply  from the distributor via the private area of the website.
  2. Clearly indicate the location of the energy delivery point.
  3. Coordinate beforehand with the local council and its technical departments.
