Certifications
On this page, we explain the certifications held by the smart meter, the regulations it complies with, and what these certifications guarantee in terms of the equipment's quality, safety, and reliability.
The smart meter and the regulations it complies with
Electricity meters must comply with specific legislation to be sold in the European Union.
The e‑distribución smart meter, based on Open Meter technology, complies with:
- European Directive 2014/32/EU, which unifies the standards for placing meters on the market across all Member States.
- Royal Decree 244/2016, which develops the Metrology Law and regulates measuring activities in Spain.
These standards ensure that the meter measures energy correctly and meets the required legal standards.
Who verifies the meter
Meter verification is carried out by authorised bodies.
In the case of e‑distribución, the meter holds certifications issued by the Technological Institute of Energy (ITE), an accredited independent body.
These certifications refer to:
- The metering equipment, both single-phase and three-phase.
- The manufacturing and assembly process, which guarantees quality right from the start of production.
