Renewal due to the end of the meters' useful life

What is the new meter replacement campaign about?

The ICT 155/2020 Order establishes that the maximum service life of low-voltage meters is 15 years from their first installation date. Once this period has been reached, all electricity distributors are legally obliged to substitute these metering devices.

Therefore, all metering equipment connected to the e-distribución low-voltage network will be replaced by a new one at no additional cost to the customer.

Does the installation of the new meter cost anything?
- No. The installation of the new meter is completely free of charge. You will NOT have to pay any amount to the authorized contractor that will replace your meter.
Does the rental price change with the new meter?
- No. The rental price is regulated and is set at 0,81 €/month for the single-phase type 5 meters, and 1,36 €/month for the three-phase type 5 meters, according to the IET/1491/2013 Order.
How does the meter work?
- The operation of the meter is the same as that of the metering device currently installed. It is only a newer and more modern equipment. The replacement is carried out to comply with current regulation, ensuring that all equipment is updated according to the legislation.
Will the meter replacement affect the contracted power?
- No. This renewal does not affect the elements of your contract such as the power or tariff you have contracted.
Will the current property of my meter change?
- No, but if you own your smart meter, you can always switch to renting the device, and the other way around.
Who should I contact for each property option?
- On the one hand, if you choose to rent the meter, e-distribución will take care of the whole process of installation, connection and verification of the equipment, as well as its maintenance, reviews and periodic verifications when apply. If you want to own your meter, please visit the e-distribución website, where you will find the procedure (guide) to register your metering device.
Who will replace my meter if it is rented, and the DSO has the property?
- The operator in charge of replacing your metering equipment will be an operator from an accredited contractor by e-distribución. This operator will inform you about his presence and identify himself as a certified operator by e-distribución. You may request this accreditation.
