Process to put into service new power-generating modules
What procedure must you follow to commission an electricity generation module connected to the distribution network in non-peninsular electricity systems, who it applies to, and what notifications are required under current regulations.?
- Self-consumption installations without surpluses.
- Self-consumption installations with surpluses and a capacity equal to or less than 15 kW, provided that:
- They are located on urbanised land.
- They have the amenities and services required by urban planning regulations.
- Royal Decree 647/2020, of 7 July.
- Regulation (EU) 2016/631.
- Royal Decree‑Law 8/2023 (repeal of the LON).
1. Regulatory framework
This procedure is based on Royal Decree 647/2020 of 7 July 2020, which regulates the application of network connection codes for certain electrical installations.
Based on this standard, Distribution Network Operators (DNOs) have defined a specific commissioning guide for generation modules connected to non-peninsular networks.
2. Who does this procedure apply to?
This procedure applies to new Electricity Generation Modules (EGMs) in the Non-Peninsular Electricity System, except in the following cases:
3. What procedure must you follow?
If you are the owner of an Electricity Generation Module, you must request a series of operational notifications, as defined in Regulation (EU) 2016/631, from the Distribution Network Operator.
These notifications allow the module to be connected to the grid and begin operating in a progressive and controlled manner.
4. Types of operational notifications
Notification | What it allows | When it is issued |
EON – Not | Authorises the energisation of the module's internal network | Before energising the installation |
ION | Allows temporary operation and the start of compliance testing | During a limited period |
FON | Authorises the final operation of the grid-connected module | After passing the tests and submitting the documentation |
LON | Repealed since 02/10/2024 | Not applicable |
To obtain the Final Operational Notification (FON), you must provide the Final EGM Certificate, in accordance with the Technical Standard for Conformity Supervision for generators in non-peninsular systems.
